You might need it. If you want to start designing and building processors you absolutely will. If you want to learn to write more efficient code, you NEED to understand how that code is actually being executed, and so you need at least a fair understanding of assembly language, compilers, and CPU design.

In addition to your tutorials, a good tutorial set is Nand2Tetris. I have been taking it myself, and we use HDL (Hardware Description Language) to put together a 16 bit CPU. On top of that you design a programming language, and make a game using that language. I only got to the part where you build the CPU, so I cannot vouch for the second half

very intreresting! dying for part 7

The reality is there probably won't be a part 7, as the atmosphere of this forum has shifted away from being technical over the years. Were it to return and be active in that area again, it might get revisited.

This is one of the most high quality threads I have ever read on any forum in years.

man i love this form for the sole reason its more tecnical then others.

Forums these days are just kiddie skidders with their pannels and openbullets Sad

Very very high quality thread, shame you stopped writing. As an electrical engineer I hope that interest in this sort of things returns here on the forum. Anyway kudos to you for taking the time to write it all down.

these are quite detailed tutorials. Thanks

Yeah, its been like 5 hours of "im bored, should I go racing? No...too expensive for fuel...Should I program? No, nothing to write.. I know! Let's teach people how you made that CPU last year and hope somebody improves your spec!"

Wow, very nice! Thank you man!
