Some of the best/smartest hackers/programmers/enthusiasts I have met online in the last 10-15 years have been women. And @Deque is only one of them. And the number of those really skilled women I know are about the same number as really skilled men I know.
Female hackers are simply less about the glory/fame/defacing random shit, and are far more serious about the purpose of their goals/journey.

Sexism aside, I think it's because there aren't very many females into engineering, math, computers, etc.. And I think that's because it isn't promoted for their gender. Especially in the USA we assign pretty hard gender roles, which is unfortunate.
In recent years we as a society have been getting better about this but we wont see the fruits of our labor for at least another generation.
But what do I know, bahaha

and i totally agree shes very talented !!@Netero well my friend the world change b4 it was bad if a girl have a job !! girls wer just for having children taking care of them and making food but now it's rare to see a girl that don't have a job !! +i don't think it's us who stand in the way of a girl who wanna program or be a hacker well i don't know about you guys but for me i like the idea and i'll encourage every girl to get in this domain !!

If Navy CIS and Criminal Minds (Both are TV shows BTW) has taught me anything, It's that 20 year old Goth Girls are better hackers than I will ever be.

It's how society influences us. People think that guys are more into computers and hacking etc while girls are more into fashion. It's the same reason why people buy toy cars for their sons and dolls for their daughters. And many girls don't try boy things because they don't want to be 'weird'.

@flawed made a good point - sort of - which leads me to point out
I said that the number of skilled females I know are about the same as the number of skilled males i know - but the fact is I know very few unskilled females in the aforementioned community. Where-as I know for a fact that there are hundred's of thousands of males online right now wanting to be a hacker lol.
There is a significant divide in that respect. Come to think of it, most of the women I know are university educated with degree's as well... so it may simply be a matter of different learning/education choices. Where as the best male hackers I know personally, maybe only 1 in 4 or 5 are university educated.

I have yet to see a woman who is a complete adrenaline junkie (that being said, I don't get out much anymore). That's a typical trait in guys, and one of the reasons I enjoy exploitation. I get a rush out of every victory I make, and it's the biggest reason I keep going.
My current GF is a decent programmer, though, and also a web dev. She isn't as good as I am, but it comes naturally to me for the most part and she learned in school while I learned on the internet.
