One I kind of thought to myself was "Keep yourself" and what meaning I take from it is to stay true to who you are. Don't fall to peer pressure and all that other bullshit.
Other than that I kinda combined 2 well known ones.
"Knowledge is power. With great power comes great responsibility."
The destruction possible with the right information is pretty intense, so I say that to myself as both encouragement to keep learning as well as encouragement to keep my ass out of the government's cross-hairs.

You can't truly live life by one motto. Really, there are a couple of quotes and phrases that fit my views on different general subjects. Chief among them:

I am apart of everyone I have met and they are apart of me.
We make impressions on one-another and leave a memory that becomes apart of our lives forever.
Then one day you will see something or do something that will make you smile or make you cry
and you will remember the reason why and that person.
Even if you don't remember there name or there face you will remember the impression they made.
More of a saying then a quote, but that what I believe. This was written by me.

I think the hole "What doesn't kill you, makes your stronger" is a terrible motto.
First of all, it doesn't really make sense.
For example;
I lose my legs, and arms in some freak accident, but I live to tell the tail. Does that make me stronger? HELL NO! First of all, I'm mentally scared because of my traumatic experience, I'm insecure and I am now completely dependent on other people.
Everyone has a different motto or none. BUt this one works for me. I didn't go through what you describe but i went trough other pretty heavy stuff, and i am still here , and still fighting.

ummm i think it was just a example not actuly something that happend :/
