Nothing is sold, etc. It's no business. Almost of all of what we do, that is close to business, is charity work. I don't believe the church should pay it, especially because most don't take any government funding, and (most of them) are non-profit. Most businesses don't take government funding, either. They work hard to be able to stay afloat, and they have to pay taxes. Even though they church says it is "non-profit", they rake in millions, maybe even billions of dollars in donations. They do not need that money, and it should be going to the government. It costs money to exempt the Church from taxes. Quote:University of Tampa professor Ryan T. Cragun along with students Stephanie Yeager and Desmond Vega ran some calculations and figured out a number: You can read more about this here. Almost all money made is donated or goes to things like quilts, health kits, etc. that are sent off using different Lutheran charities. I think there should be exemptions on certain things, however, property tax, and standard tax should be taxed to them. I know, here, if you buy stuff for the charity events for the church, and stuff like that, you can get tax-exemptions. I think that's fair. There are certain taxes they should pay. Mine is simply a small community church. RE: Should Churches Pay Taxes? - Singularity - 12-27-2013 (12-27-2013, 05:51 AM)Storm Wrote: Mine doesn't make that kind of money. Also, why wouldnt you donate it to society and bettering the land around you through taxes :3 RE: Should Churches Pay Taxes? - Leader - 12-27-2013 (12-27-2013, 05:57 AM)Singularity Wrote: His church is in USA. They benefit the government who spreads the taxes through families on welfare and food stamps, who in-fact, a lot are too lazy to get a job. We still help society, but the United States isn't the only country. I think they said we donated over 1,000 health kits (towel, tooth brush, tooth paste, nail clippers, water, food, etc.--Basic hygiene and needs) to Haiti after the major earth quake. |
