RE: Motivation - Llebacc - 01-29-2014

My motivation comes mostly from my want to be the best person I can be, especially in my work, hobbies, and general interests. Code and writing fiction are both very important to me. They are the reason I get out of bed early in the morning, just so I can work and get better.

Besides that, I code to secure my future, to ensure that I get a chance to go to the places I want to go in life. Because I don't want to be stuck in a code monkey 9-5er. I want to be on the bleeding edge of software development. To get there from where I'm at now, I have to keep my motivation up.

I should mention, though, that no matter your motivation, if you lack self-discipline it's all useless. Because in the end it's only yourself that can shut down any games and close out of facebook/SL/reddit/4chan/whatever and get down to work even if you do have a great reason to be working.

My motivation is to learn. I live comfortably, but by no means am I wealthy. I constantly learn new things, usually one or two things per year. This year it is cryptography. Last year it was assembly. The year before it was hardware architecture and engineering. Next year I plan on learning AI design.

RE: Motivation - Jolly - 01-29-2014

I know your feels. Getting motivation is easy but keeping it going is the hardest part. I try to artificially manipulate my moods with things like awesome music and art. Seeing colorfull pictures and listening to good music sets the basis of a good mood so whenever I feel down or un-motivated I just try to remember that feeling.
It also wouldn't do bad if you had a goal you'd want to reach. Set up a big and nice goal for yourself that you could see yourself reaching in like 20 or 30 years, the bigger the better. It's always easier to get trough things if you have something to work for.
Then again, being motivated by things like rage, anger and revenge isn't bad either but they mostly tend to get unstable and crash together with whatever you try to achieve...

TL;DR - Listen to good music, set a big coal, get plenty of good sleep and eat well to keep yar mind and body healthy.

Music, Coffee, ADHD medicine ... That will get you going. :-P

RE: Motivation - DarkMuse - 01-30-2014

Drugs. Or just actually wanting to do things. Lack of motivation usually comes from either depression or laziness. Dont do drugs if you think you're depressed though. That won't get you very far.

Don't do drugs at all.

Why is that? Smoking marijuana occasionally is 100% ok for you. In fact, a cup of coffee is tons more addictive.

yeah, it's used as a medicine for depression & pain, as I'm sure you were aware.

This is very true. And the problem with me.

haha, I should try that for real. Sometimes it just goes the other way: I am depressed, and therefore depressing music "sounds good"

The problem is that my goal is to be a web developer/designer. The thing is that my school doesn't offer design, art or computer science at all. (I know. It's pretty far away from everything and anything)

The first time you get high, you never get as high as you do the first time. People chase that feeling, and experiment with other drugs and try to accomplish that. I'm no "MARIJUANA IS SO BAD HURHUR", because cigarettes contain more harm in them. I have no more morals, because the internet nulled them. But I will at least live up to know I will not do drugs.
