I actually agree with that. I do find it disrespectful to flat out say you like a celebrity if you're in a relationship. I think it's the same for either side but females generally don't see the issue with it as much as guys.

I will say, some of the current age of celebrity culture is pretty terrible and probably is causing lots of harm to a big chunk of people

Celebrities only exist because people give attention to them. If actors just acted in movies and no one idolised them, they wouldnt be celebrities. Just workers.
