There is ALWAYS something you can do and it is not praying. You need to analyze your practical choices and act on them. The only situation where you do not have an escape is when you are about to die. Only death takes your choices away. Yes people have been programmed. Just look around you. The mega promotion of God and religion make people believe he is the only one that can get you trough anything. Nobody believes in themselves or on the power of will and determination. "Oh my car has no gas. Instead of walking 3 blocks to get some gas into the portable carrier I have on my trunk I will grab my crucifix and pray that the tanks fills itself." RE: Who is God? - Harvey - 08-06-2013 It's pathetic to think that someone would pray to a higher power for their life to get better. "Oh please, I'm too pathetic/weak to put in the effort to get what I want in life, please do it for me!" Get real. "Oh please, I'm too pathetic/weak to put in the effort to get what I want in life, please do it for me!" Get real. The thing is, that's not praying. Praying is building your relationship with God and eventually leading him to answer things that are troubling you. Not blindly demanding your needs be met, amen. The people you're referring to are pathetic with or without religion and they shouldn't ruin it for the millions of others who pray "correctly". If it means anything, I don't pray. All bias aside. RE: Who is God? - Cake - 08-06-2013 I semi agree with Chaos. You don't pray to win the lottery for no reason. You pray for health and forgiveness. He's there for times of need and guidance not greed. Praying is to induce placebo that someone is listening when it's really just your imagination?* RE: Who is God? - Nil - 08-06-2013 (08-06-2013, 04:59 AM)Harvey Wrote:Quote:Praying is building your relationship with God and eventually leading him to answer things that are troubling you. Sure. Not in the biblical sense. But to a stubborn nonbeliever, yes. RE: Who is God? - Harvey - 08-06-2013 Indeed it is. Sorry if I come across as rude, I'm just very anti-religion as you might have guessed. ![]() RE: Who is God? - Evangelist - 08-06-2013 I have no problems with religious people the only thing that drives me to hate even the germs of some Christians it's that they act like their religion is 100% backed by undeniable evidence and cannot respect critics or being called out. I think they all know to an extent that it's based on BS. |
