Because suicide is a sin and you apparently won't go to heaven if you do so. RE: Why do people believe in God? - Superman - 07-14-2013 Well humans were unable to find out who or what created them..there are a lot of theories but no definite answer for the question. Also we don't know how many universes exist & how they were created..if you say everything is just random shit, If you see every supernatural event as a mere coincidence, then there's no god for you. Everything depends upon individual's perception & his point of view. RE: Why do people believe in God? - Corey ☁ - 07-14-2013 I think people believe in God because it's better then believing in nothing. Nobody knows the truth so people can think whatever they want to make themselves feel better. If it were not for any of those experiences I would have doubt like you guys do which I fully understand. That's what is written in the bible too that God speaks about doubt. He asks you to prove him, prove without a shadow of doubt. God also talks about our carnal mind. How it despises God and his ways. So you not believing is actually the carnal mind trying to shy away from him. RE: Why do people believe in God? - thechubbygod - 08-12-2013 In the beginning when the first religion was formed, God was an explanation for all the things humanity couldn't understand then. For example, Native American culture believed that earthquakes happen when the two giant turtles, which carry the earth on their backs, move. Although this doesn't directly relate to god, it shows how some an unseen and omnipotent being is the reason behind natural phenomenon. Coming back to god, the concept was created to answer the unanswerable and the maintain sanity in society and purpose in people's lives. RE: Why do people believe in God? - Eclipse - 08-23-2013 Whether god exists is not relevant here. What does is why people believe in a god. I personally believe that it's for a sense of security. You would rather die believing that you're going to a better place than dies knowing that you will just die. You won't see what happened 100, 1000, 1000000 years down the line. Even if this doesn't matter as you won't remember once you're dead (if this is what you believe) it's still pretty depressing. So people have a god. Whom when you die, you go to, and live your second life for all eternity in peace and luxury. It's comforting to know something like that. If you really, and I mean REALLY, think long and hard about this, it's actually not depressing at all. Yes, the thought of no longer existing seems depressing to us now since we're alive and whatnot, but once we're dead, we have no recollection of this concept. RE: Why do people believe in God? - Shebang - 08-23-2013 Here's my thoughts on God, coming from someone who isn't religious at all. People believe in God the same way that people believe in results from scientific studies. Both people are the same, they're dealing with the same issues of not knowing how something works, why something is this way. The reason for that being that beings are not all-knowing. We do not know everything, and as a result we instill belief in something that helps us to better understand the subject in question. Some people, like myself, turn to science, because people who have spent their entire lives researching and experimenting with the subject in question know what they're talking about, and when results are given, I choose to believe them. If it wasn't published by anything scientific, would you believe that the sun's brightness is due to nuclear fission? I don't know what the heck that means, but if someone who studies this believes this, they know what they're talking about. Likewise with God. God is just a different thing to turn to when the normal human understanding of things can't cover a specific topic, the largest of these being the 'story' of creation. Information was presented by both sides (religion and science), and based on the opinions of the people less knowledgeable, they decided whether they wanted to believe in the Christian belief of how humans and animals are created, and those who turned to science believe in the genetic mutation of animals occurring over millions upon millions of years of adapting to the environment. Who knows, science could be wrong! It's just what I and other people turned to believe in. Religion could be wrong, but it's the same situation. I'll change my first sentence, as after writing this I realize I am religious. It's just a different belief. Interesting post for the most part. Although I just want to say this. Faith "strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof" The thing religion fails to do is provide PROOF. I'm much more likely to believe something from the scientific community if they can provide proof, evidence, research...etc. |
