It seems to beat the 5950X by ~10% depending on the benchmark. Don't regret purchasing my 5950X, given how much time has passed.

That purchase will still serve you well for years to come too.

However, I'm very happy to see intel still pulling out good performance. Competition between intel and AMD will keep the drive going for more improvements and progress, so I'd like to see them out match each other wherever they can.

The competition is good. That said, the 12900k has been seen using up to 230w system draw in some tests. That is more than my FX did. Its going to run hot and its going to factor in on the price, especially when you start looking at more expensive coolers or water cooling. At the current prices its not a whole lot cheaper than the 5950x, which still maintains a lead in multithreading.
