I know if you are like most of us, it's shutting of the brain or winding it down. Mine works like a bowling alley , I have 20 lanes going at once. It doesn't help that for 2 decades I rotated 12 hour shifts from days to nights to days to nights every month . So coming out of a career was almost impossible without meds.

Sleep meds or relaxants help especially certain days. Yes seroquel is a sleep med for certain people and can help balance the mood. Ambien is junk, I wake up and eat and not know. Xanax helps relax.. But it's meds, not always the best.

Routine helps, getting up, eating and getting to bed can help regulate your body and mind. Keep distractions to a minimum.

What I do, and this may sound silly, is I like football, so I imagine myself on a pro team and work through each game. It usually works cause I never end up in the playoffs! Lol. I also sometimes just start praying or talking to God himself. Both work.

The key is to think low key, easy, and fun. Be comfortable and keep distractions away. If there's troubling issues, see a doctor or pay or counselor. That's what they are paid for. Hope this helps. Having a visit with a significant other before bed can knock ya out too. Weed, will knock some out for days. Just my thoughts.
