Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop C6 is good for making logos.

Making 2D logo's is the best option. It's best to make it 2D in Photoshop CS6 then import it into Cinema 4D R13 and use some appropriate materials. After you're done with Cinema 4D, you could consider putting it back into Photoshop to add a texture or color correction, just to give it that extra feel!
