No need, we already have Discord as our means of communication.
A chatbox/live chat has been suggested a number of times and declined.

Around 15 years ago, chatboxes were quite popular on the majority of boards I was registered with.
Seldom are they used nowadays.

Around 15 years ago, chatboxes were quite popular on the majority of boards I was registered with.
Seldom are they used nowadays.
In general, people seem to gravitate more towards instant messaging or chats. The communication on forums is less instantaneous, but also more provoking/thoughtful. That makes it special. To add anything else would certainly detract from that experience. We do have the Discord, but it's off-site and secondary to the forum.

I've increased them back to 150/15/75. The increase in activity is pretty decent lately.

I'd discussed implementing a shoutbox again recently, with the same conclusion it would be to the detriment of both the Discord and forum. It's possible to embed our Discord, but I'd just recommend downloading the app.

The separation between the forum and discord is important, in my opinion. It allows people to relax, and have more general small talk, random meme/image posting, and instant feedback. We once referred to Skype/discord as the "gutter of SL", which is best kept separate from the forum itself.
