I have an uncle who is a police officer one city over from where I currently live. I don't necessarily hate cops, I just don't like the overly cocky ones.
I personally never have had a bad experience with a police officer, especially the one that pulled me over for running 128 in a 65 one night (I never went to jail nor lost my license for that btw) so. There's my answer lol.

There are Good cops and no doubt there are corrupt officers. They are also quite visible because the bad reputation travels faster, media coverage, nepotism, and grand nexus.

I'm in Canada so it may be a bit different. Once I got pull over for speeding and he let me off with a lesser charge. I can't complain. I've also had shitty cops give me the maximum ticket they could just for shits and giggles I think. I'm very neutral on this.

Police officers in the US are, on the whole, worthless pieces of shit with no regard for human life or liberty. They act as if their tin gives them absolute authority over anyone who hasn't gone through their minimal amount of training and even less amount of interaction with people.
When the people who are supposed to keep the peace see the people they're supposed to help as the enemy, then we have a paramilitary force dedicated to making sure the general populace under their thumb and scared shitless of their power.

This is coming from someone who's life has been made a mess by gestapo tactics in the past and I have no reason whatsoever to like anything about anything that makes up a pig.

Like any group, there's good and bad, and the bad ones need to be taken to task.
However, that doesn't discount the good ones, which outnumber the bad.

We need cops, judges, prosecutors and so on for an orderly society, no shit. The problem is the system has way too many internal contradictions that render all these public services worthless because they function to serve the rich, not the common man. Even when their supposedly enforcing the order professionally and everything seems smooth, it's always done for the benefit of our rulers, not us.
Right now US cops are essentially the largest armed gang in America. They have quotas on how many tickets they're expected to produce and new slaves to recruit for the privatized prison system. The falling crime rate pisses them the fuck off for this reason, they are losing business and must employ increasingly aggressive tactics to keep raking in the dough for their thug superiors.

Cops these days are very much underappreciated. They get a bad rep because of some asshole cops who think they can do anything. Of course there are a lot of those bad cops but generally speaking I think the vast majority of them are just normal working people that just do their job. Also some people create problems where there are none and because of that it usually ends with using force or violence which then ends up as a clickbait headline making it seem like the cop was in the wrong.
