When I saw that, I remembered back when I first got a windows 7 machine and decent hardware (was an upgrade from my IBM T41 that I used for many years), first thing I did was install vmware and make a shitload of VMs. It was totally unnecessary, but I did it anyways. I wanted to test out a bunch of operating systems before I really settled down to one I liked (which ended up being Arch) RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - mothered - 10-23-2017 (10-23-2017, 05:07 PM)phyrrus9 Wrote: first thing I did was install vmware and make a shitload of VMs. It was totally unnecessary, but I did it anyways. I wanted to test out a bunch of operating systems before I really settled down to one I liked (which ended up being Arch) I can relate to that. I did something similar many years ago with Windows XP. I customized a heap of ISOs, tested them on my VMs and selected the one that was best suited to my environment. RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - Playboy - 10-25-2017 Linux mint how about you guys? RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - Llebacc - 10-25-2017 I've been a Debian user for about 5 years now. I've tried Ubuntu flavors and Mint, and it's stayed my favorite distro. Right now I'm running it with KDE Plasma and it's great. The biggest hitch you'll have with Debian is the slow release cycle, so unless you move to at least Debian Testing you'll be saddled with old software. Debian Testing, on the flipside, is more unstable than something that has a 6 month release cycle like vanilla Ubuntu. So there's no good in-between with Debian. That being said, it's a great intermediate level distro with plenty of customizability and a massive number of packages available. RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - dvn8ter - 11-01-2017 I started using Linux in 2011 when I got tired of Windows and all the BS that comes with it. When I first installed Ubuntu on my PC, it was like Christmas day for me! All of a sudden my computer WORKED! and I had a bunch of new, awesome, toys to play with. I've used mainly Debian based Linux distros since then. Ubuntu was my favorite for a few years and then I switched to Linux Mint. For the last year or so I have been using Windows 10 on my custom workstation and Ubuntu Server on a Dell T5500 (I have two towers at my workstation) and my laptop is dual booted with Windows 10 and Linux Mint. I'd say that my favorite is Debian, with Windows 10 being the runner up just because it makes me a lot of $ and is the best OS from Microsoft yet RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - Llebacc - 11-01-2017 (11-01-2017, 05:32 PM)dvn8ter Wrote: I started using Linux in 2011 when I got tired of Windows and all the BS that comes with it. I usually keep an eye on the various Linux distros via DistroWatch.com Ubuntu was #1 for the longest time, now Mint has taken the top spot w Debian as the runner up. You can see the top 100 Linux distros on the lower right hand side of the site. When Windows 10 was officially released, I didn't think too highly of It. Once I gave myself a change to delve Into It In an In depth manner, I believe Microsoft has got It right this time (over It's predecessor). RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - M450NC - 11-03-2017 Windows 10 at the moment. Used to be Windows 7 but got used to 10 now. RE: What is your favorite Operating System? - BORW3 - 11-04-2017 ArchLabs currently, used to be Lubuntu |
