RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - Oni - 03-02-2018 I think #1 is actually the most sensible option, but will require more effort. RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - Nil - 03-02-2018 I don't know much about website structures and technologies when it comes to forums, but is it feasible to make a script to automate the process of migrating the threads? If there are certain keywords looked for in the title and content body, it doesn't sound unreasonable to collect these threads if they meet a certain threshold to be considered for the new subcategory. I thought of this too, you could filter threads by keywords like "amazon", "refund", "return", etc. While that can help, there still would be work to be done RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - phyrrus9 - 03-02-2018 (03-01-2018, 03:03 PM)mothered Wrote:(03-01-2018, 08:59 AM)Oni Wrote: If implemented, staff would have to go through pre-existing threads and move them. We could sticky a thread in that section (assuming we do something as strict as #3, which is currently leading), titled "READ before you post", explaining the new changes. It would probably cut down a fair amount on the new posts being out of place. Social engineering to most new members will be seen to be explicitly warranty related stuff. Now that is fine as long as its isolated. I like this concept but believe another way you could do this is to have the Social Engineering forum be for traditional work on interpesonal/traditional work. You could have two subs with one retaining the Sexual tag and the other being Warranty/Refunding. I think this might be where you were going with the third/second ones but I'm not certain. That's where I was going with the #2 proposal, #3 was just the extreme end (03-02-2018, 09:15 AM)Ender Wrote:(03-02-2018, 08:03 AM)God Wrote: I don't know much about website structures and technologies when it comes to forums, but is it feasible to make a script to automate the process of migrating the threads? For the most part, these would be easily identified just by their title, and mods have a batch move tool, they could just select all the posts that are certainly refunds and hit the move button, after all that's done they'd have to read through the ones that remain. Scripts are a bad idea. Excellent thought. I believe It'll allow members to post In an Informed manner, hence their margin for error will be significantly reduced. In addition to that, perhaps a message just above the text box similar to the one on grave digging stating "read before you post" (or some variant) referencing the sticky. This (message) may be an overkill, but It Is a fact that stickies are easily overlooked. RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - Synthx - 03-02-2018 Look, I'm going to be completely honest, and I don't mean to make anyone mad at me for saying this. I think anything related to S.E. should just be against the rules, but that is my small opinion. Sorry if anyone doesn't agree. I'm split on the issue, but Oni's said many many times that he's never going to do that, and he has a good reason for it. He doesn't want to limit the speech of anyone on this board, which is good IMO RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - Synthx - 03-02-2018 (03-02-2018, 04:17 PM)phyrrus9 Wrote:(03-02-2018, 04:05 PM)Synthx Wrote: Look, I'm going to be completely honest, and I don't mean to make anyone mad at me for saying this. Well, I guess I can agree on that. Although I just don't have much stuff to reply to anymore as there is so much SE content now a days RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - phyrrus9 - 03-02-2018 (03-02-2018, 04:25 PM)Synthx Wrote:(03-02-2018, 04:17 PM)phyrrus9 Wrote:(03-02-2018, 04:05 PM)Synthx Wrote: Look, I'm going to be completely honest, and I don't mean to make anyone mad at me for saying this. It's not that there's so much content, there's actually relatively little. It's just the same question asked with a different object, but the question and the answer is often the same. If you read my stickied post, you'll see some solutions in there to that issue RE: Restructure the Social Engineering section - glitch956 - 03-02-2018 I like it the way it is.
