iirc tapatalk doesn't run the mybb scripts but rather has it's own API that deals with the database directly

I don't know what that is, I just type the website link on my cell phone
I also prefer direct access via my browser, never been a fan of apps. There's no right or wrong, each to their own.

Would the mobile website also use some sort of different interface ? I'm on Chrome on my cell and it's not merging(this is a test post to demonstrate)

More than likely. tapatalk is a native app, it retrieves information and uses its own UX, the mobile site is independent of that

I'd like to point out that this is still an issue. I am on the site on my cell and there's still no automatic merging. It may just be me at this point. I have the OnePlus 5 and I use Chrome if that matters.

Solution: Just edit. I frequently forget to reply to multiple posts in one post, so I go copy + paste the newer posts and edit them into the one I'd want to merge them with. I'm not aware of a time limit for edits (doubt there is one). I also didn't even know there was an automatic merge feature. I just do it manually in like, 2 seconds.

I'm not sure If It's still the case now (can't test It with staff privileges/permissions), but I remember quite a while back I was unable to edit my post after ex-amount of time.
I don't recall the exact time-frame, but It did happen on a number of occasions. In any case, as you've stated, simply edit the post. Given the member will/should Immediately notice the double-post, the time limit Is Immaterial.

Good point about staff privileges. I don't recall time limits, but I always used to do it within minutes before I had staff, as you mentioned. Will check with Oni/wait for his comments on that. Though, you're right, I expect most should notice immediately. I've formed a habit of reading all the thread posts before commenting for this reason!

I guess I will, I thought there was a plugin, maybe not compatible with this version of MyBB?
