Probably, or it will affect the regular (daily) user most.

@mothered no problem.

Please not that "sensitive" data wasn't been compromised (Avast says), only computer name, specs etc...

I hope they can get this resolved quickly as I'm sure ALOT of people are pretty pissed off right now

They just need to rush to find the C&C server and close it down, then take a damage assesement and find the source of the hack.

Using the old versions of CCleaner did not solve the problem?

What do you mean? It's safe to download again and older versions are fine as well. But like many people said above: don't use registry cleaners.

Off topic to CCleaner but on topic In terms of Infection and Identifiable Information being compromised, hence the Importance of booting via a Live read-only media, preferably In a virtualized environment obviously using the Linux platform.
EDIT: Typo.

Interesting, I just used it yesterday to clean stuff up... I have not updated it since the install though. But I think after reading this I will be un-installing it off of my studio pc.

I heard that infected only the new version of the program. Maybe, if you download the installer 2014, for example, one can use CCleaner

RE: CCleaner infected with malware - Bish0pQ - 09-21-2017

@Jabber Yes the older versions aren't affected, the latest one isn't affected anymore either. You only have to worry if you downloaded & installed the tool between the given dates.

Update on the hack: apparently it was used to lift Intellectual Property from companies and computers of interest.
