Dark anime usually has two meanings. Either gory and horror anime such as Another, or psychological, thriller, and/or thought provoking anime like Zankyou no Terror, Subete Ga F, and Deadman Wonderland, which also tend to fall under the fantasy/sci-fi category.
I tend to prefer the latter, but can enjoy both.

Just looked it up - Wouldn't have guessed it was dark reading the MAL synopsis... Then you see the R+ rating. It mentions mild nudity.. but that's not worth R+!!

However, fap fest --> loss of limbs is a pretty hilarious contrast.
