Depending on what you want to crack, Hydra may work for you.
It's open source, works on GNU+Linux and is used by a lot of people in infosec industry.

Oh, alright. I honestly didn't look thoroughly on Hashcat. I remember reading about it a bit awhile back and it came to mind when I saw this thread.
