Is there are reason for resetting the rep? Surely there has to be a good reason.

So what you're saying is it was absolutely pointless and is going to be the exact same thing it was, just give members a chance to start off at ground 0 together.

Also the fact that there are a lot of members with loads of rep who were dead.

I know the feels my friend. To be fair though I was like 4th most repped and I rarely ever visited so it makes since why there was a wipe.
