I got quoted £3600 for my car, but then I added my parents as additional drivers and my RBS Gold discount came in. So it was £2400 upfront.

Ye that's what I am thinking of doing. Be a second driver and so its cheaper for the first year until I get better paid job. Although I wont get no claims bonus but insurance will be cheaper. How much you paid for your car if I may ask?
