RE: Thoughts on forums and software - Matigo - 06-08-2016

I have always thought vBulletin was the best, but I have not been a member/owned a vBulletin in quite some time.

3.8.6/7 was the best version.

Pros:
The plugin system is nice.
As a base it's secure and expandable.
Easy to manage.

Cons:
Templating - Not sure why MyBB never used a templating framework such as twig.
A lot of unnecessary code causing increased loading time.

Yeah I haven't seen many nice templates (besides this theme and a select few others) it seems if you don't want to fork over a lot of cash you're stuck with building a theme by scratch.

When I say templating system I mean that MyBB currently stores all templates within a database by default which is inefficient and makes it a pain to modify.

I wonder if they're going to change that in MyBB 2.0.
Which hell, who knows is going to be released.

2.0 Will use the Twig template engine if I remember correctly and 2.0 looks mostly complete from images.

Well, hey.
I suppose that'll make it so much easier and useful.

I hope it's released by the end of this year.

I love Xenforo. I have been using it for years. In my opinion it looks the best, and is the easiest to use if your beginning. It is not free, but there are other ways to get it, although I wouldn't recommend due to security flaws with nulled software.

Xenforo I've seen used before back in the minecraft days, and it's really user friendly as well.

I agree. Xenforo is the best compared to other free/paid alternatives. If you understand their template system then you can almost make a fully custom website using it.
I know this can be done using other softwares but Xenforo is much stable and better in my opinion.

Almost all, including my Minecraft server used Xenforo and Spigot :3
