RE: coding competition - Mr.Kurd - 11-20-2016

I know Java but explain what we have to do?

RE: coding competition - Vi-Sion - 11-20-2016

@Mr.Kurd nothing yet i'm just seeing if enough members are willing to participate .
If it's done you'll have to solve some coding exercises, each time you solve an exercise you'll get points by the end of the tournament whoever have the most points will probably win something still don't know what could be the prize so any suggestions is appreciated .

Coding contest is great and all, but to really test the limits it's going to need to be specific.

IE it should be a problem/problems thats (In my Opinion):

1.) Difficult to solve and not immediately obvious
LIke if the problem was *Create the best implementation of Conways game of Life!* that's not very original...and kind of easy.
2.) Touches on some fundamental Computer Science (Data structures, OS, ETC)
3.) Needs some kind of time constraint. this forces competitors to think a little and maybe use a real data struct instead of spaghetti code being let through because it *works*

I'm up for this, also for the ones interested, I believe @meow still has a PHP contest running.

RE: coding competition - Nil - 11-23-2016

I know months ago, several of us would post coding challenges of various difficulties. They weren't so much competitions as they were just simply fun and to learn something new maybe.

I'd possibly have some ideas but would need to know how difficult/lengthy these competitions should be. I know most of us have school and/or work and unsure of how participation would be as obviously these can't be too time consuming for most of us. Or maybe I'm just the minority here?

RE: coding competition - d0ntjump - 11-23-2016

I'd be down to jump on this train w/Python and or Java.

RE: coding competition - bitm0de - 11-23-2016

Go for it. I'll be waiting.

RE: coding competition - Vi-Sion - 11-23-2016

Well what i'm having in mind now is:
1.The challenges would be easy and medium difficulty in order to let everyone have a chance even people that have recently started programming
2.Each challenge done correctly will give you points depending on the challenge
3.If a user already solved a challenge in a language you can't use that same language to solve it,if done you wont get points.
solving the same challenge in another language will still give you the points.
4.Whoever first reach 5000 points will be the winner and the prize would be 15 $ .

let me know what you think about this,it's the first challenge i do so feel free to help with your thoughts and if anything should be changed.

Honestly, I think this should just be started at this point. By the time you come up with an idea for it people would have already lost interest, just do it.

The thread was made five days ago we have to make sure people are interested before we start making challenges, we don't want to make challenges that no one is going to do, when I say we I mean the OP and whomever he has helping them. You can go ahead and make one yourself though
