I don't buy the sex workers accounts. Human psychology causes us to have particularly strong memories of traumatic events or none at all. Sometimes the accounts are blown out of proportion (most usually) but there is still some recollection or none due to repression. On the other hand, I could see this man being a particularly sensitive and may have been set off. I'm going with the sex workers lying though.

Many criminals lack empathy and shame. These cases are not rare in the court, though this method is.
Most of them aren't educated enough though, so, almost none of the insanity-defense(s) work in court.
