This ^^^

Those who know what they're doing In most facets of computing and online navigation, solely rely on their knowledge and judgement. Although I use an AV on some PCS, most of my systems do not have one Installed.

Three mantras:
1) Everything that is a binary blob is a virus.
2) Sheep meat is more delicious than penguin meat
3) Never give up your privacy for security, you will receive neither.

I disagree with #2. Maybe you just had a bad piece of penguin??

I've been with ESET for 2 years now and no hassles. Don't clog up my RAM either.

It was an esoteric one, I give you that.

Linux has a much smaller community in comparison to windows. As such, the 'wolves' are less likely to target linux but go for the easy option; which is windows. If I were to download and execute a malicious file, I would be completely unaffected due to the fact that 99% of all malware is written for windows.

I've been making crypters for roughly 2 years now, and the answer is that no major name brand AV will protect you, just go to a crypter sales thread on HF or even here and you'll see a list of AVs that are shit. I have yet to find a good AV that isn't business level and is either cracked or doesn't cost crazy money. I would personally recommend writing your own, its what I did for active memory scanning of processes, and it works well. I would recommend not being stupid, and just individually scanning on virustotal

I never trust any one AV.
Maybe I'm just paranoid or maybe I visit too many dodgy sites. Who knows?
I'm currently using MalwareBytes, Avast, UnHackMe, IObit and Spybot.

There's no such thing as a best antivirus program as they do not protect against everything, but if I had to pick one it would be Bitdefender as I've had good experience in the past using their products. However, common sense is most important and personally I've stopped using all antivirus software, as they cause more headache to me than they do good due to false positives.

I'm sad to see that nobody here mentioned to use a more secure system in the first place ---> Linux...

It may be safer but it's still not completely safe (see dirtycow for an example), and good luck running commercial software and recent games on Linux - even with Wine it's not really working in most cases.

I am personally using Avast with silent mode on.
It doesn't take up a lot of resources and it generally gives me a better feeling.
