Let me just ask this nice fella if I can walk over to my safe and fetch it before he kills me." Well, It seems as though you've put yourself In a position of helplessness. I'll help you out here and state the obvious. Please take this under advisement. Don't lock your gun away- It somewhat defeats the purpose of owing It for reasons of "self-defense". As always, I'm glad to be of assistance to you. Wait so when massacres happen and all the gun-lovers say, "that'd never happen with my kids because I'm responsible and I lock up my guns", it's all bullshit? Good to know. You've completely misunderstood the entire context. As such, you're beyond any form of assistance from me. My apologies, I'm sorry I can't be of any help. It's all good though, you'll only learn from your mistakes. In the event someone attacks you with the Intention to kill (firearm or otherwise), the police aren't going to attend there and then. If you have an alarm system, you should have warning and you should always phone law enforcement first. If they've already got a gun on you, then it's foolish to try to grab yours. Assuming you're a responsible gun owner, you know this. The whole point is that you'd be enabled to defend yourself if you want. The chance of being struck by lightning is 1 in 3000. For some, the chance of being murdered is less than 1 in 100000. The chance of an average person living in the US being struck by lightning in a given year is estimated at 1 in 960,000.[1] That's puts the probability at 1.04*10^-6. Getting struck twice puts that at 1.09*10^-12. Comparatively, the chances of dying as a result of an assault by firearm is about 1 in 25,000.[2] That's 0.00004, or about 4*10^-5, not even less than a single lightning strike. "The odds of being struck in your lifetime is 1 in 3000." 1 in 25000 is the average for the US, including murder-happy cities such as Chicago. Many places, like Plano, have 1 in 100000. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/06/0623_040623_lightningfacts.html RE: Gun Ownership & Murder Rate - Jiggly - 07-03-2016 I'm just waiting for you guys to start writing 10 page papers on this stuff with all your debates and sources. You can't compare homicides per year with lightning in a lifetime. My bad, but the likelihood of being murdered in the same timeframe (~85yrs?) is still very unlikely. My intention was to point out the actual probability of being murdered. |
