Shitload of extensions/plugins out there. Just buttons to press and checkboxes to check mostly. There are no plugins needed aside from contact form which there are hundreds available in raw code. Responsive grid gallery (also hundreds available on google), about me page, maybe blog and contact form. Those are the only things you need for a portfolio. WOrks need to look good on all devices, a client to know bit about you, maybe see your activities/interests on blog and lastly contact you for bussiness. Optimize code/images, a bit of seo and you'll already standout.
