I own both a turtle beach headset as well as some astros (a40s) and to be honest they both sound extremely good. Turtle beaches are by far cheaper and had i not got a nice xmas bonus, i probably would have just stuck to them. Alas, i bought A40s and although they do sound a bit better, I'd never have missed out on anything had i not bought them. I do have to note though that the astros ARE more comfortable if your playing for long periods of time. just my opinion.....

Astro's are brilliant in my opinion, also the simulated sound is very similar; however the aesthetics and the ergonomics of the Astro's are what make them so HQ. Even the packaging is superior to any headset I've brought; even my Beats didn't come in that much of a cool box.

I have a pair of old Turtle Beach X41's. I don't use them too often. I'd like to get a pair of A40's too actually.
