Yeah, this is true.
It's also important to remember, however, that these days at least it's mostly the minority who causes the most trouble. Their are many with whom it is easy to have a civilized conversation with on religion, there are others with whom it's absolutely futile. As an agnostic attending a kind-of religious school, i've met both type of person.
One of them will shun you, tell you your going to hell and isolate themselves among only like-minded individuals
The other will invite you to smoke a bowl and have a pretty great conversation on some interesting topics
obviously I'm generalizing here, and there are countless types in between those two.
it depends on one's personal approach, I think.

I have a lot of friends belonging to all types of religion, and their caliber of belief and persona Is quite positive. And on the other hand, I work with a certain person who Is quite hostile- blaming religion on his animosity towards a certain Individual who's done absolutely nothing wrong. This Individual prays (on his breaks) at work, Is courteous and polite towards others but because of his religious belief, he's frowned upon by one particular person.
On those grounds, the antagonistic behavior towards the religious Individual Is just not on.

Yeah, it definitely works both ways. Just like there are religious zealouts, there are those prejudiced against religious persons just because of what they believe in. Neither is more justified than the other. They are both just as toxic.

In my opinion religion gives people hope in a torn apart world. The problem is that the thing that tore it up was religion. I am an agnostic atheist and i normally don't have a problem with religion as long as no one takes it too seriously and don't involve other people in it. Also i believe that you should only introduce religion to a child past a certain age so they can think for their selves and what they want to believe and not be brainwashed/forced to believe in it from a very young age.
