I don't think anything ever came out about why Air Gear stopped. The manga hit 357 chapters and the anime covers something like 75 of those chapters. If you end up liking the anime hit up the manga. You'll have to start from chapter 1 because there are changes from manga to anime that differs the story slightly, but it is still worth reading.
Edit: I just checked and apparently Air Gear never made a second season due to poor rating over in Japan. Though now that I think about it they did a weird move where they released an OVA that skipped like 200 chapters and shows like a far future episode of the show.
