They were probably high when they thought of this, ironically.

Immense power, but at the same time, no power. Most of us simply tolerate the crown rather than support it. Nowadays, the queen pretty much has no role in the governance of the country. She can advise the government, award honours, sign treaties, etc. Basically she's a really expensive pet that the rest of the planet coos at.

The Queen can't actually have any say in parliamentary law making. The final stage of passing a bill is 'Royal Ascent', where the Queen is to read over and pass the bill. This doesn't happen. One of the Queen's minions merely pass it through, the Queen doesn't read it. The last monarch to stop a bill going through was Victoria, IIRC.

Where do they matter? Petitions in general now are somewhat laughable, in any fashion or form.

it really depends on the petition. A ballot proposal has a big chance to change things. Colorado is an example of a petition circulation causing big change.

Our government has replied.
Quote:Despite the potential opportunity offered by legalisation to raise revenue through taxation, there would be costs in relation to administrative, compliance and law enforcement activities, as well as the wider costs of drug prevention and health services.

As long as people don't go around saying "420 blaze it faggot" or some weed culture shit, then I don't care if it's legalised.
