RE: Introduction to linux -Configuration and installation - Datatraveler - 03-27-2014 I'm new here. I'm starting by doing lots of reading and experimenting you look like a person worthy to follow and readI do have one question though, do you guys(upper level people) use Linux to perform all of your operations? I use Linux as my daily OS I have a windows machine but to me it's nothing more than a glorified xbox, some use Windows (or mac) exclusively and some multi boot RE: Introduction to linux -Configuration and installation - kudumi - 04-09-2014 I wouldn't choose default installation, it would be nice if you can suggest people to use LVM and how to useful it is. I didn't suggest anything I rather talked about what each option is used for and left it up to the reader to make his/her own choice as I said in the post LVM is great for large disks or for users who intend to add/remove or change partitions on a regular basis. I didn't want this to be a step by step follow this and that tutorial but instead I want people to learn from it and take away the knowledge to make the right choices for their particular needs. RE: Introduction to linux -Configuration and installation - bluedog.tar.gz - 04-10-2014 How did I miss this tutorial!? Awesome detailed tutorial, really digging the effort for making screenshot as well. The only tip I could give is that you are missing headers. 1. Header RE: Introduction to linux -Configuration and installation - chmod - 04-10-2014 (04-10-2014, 12:22 AM)bluedog.tar.gz Wrote: How did I miss this tutorial!? You're right I'll fix that now Thanks for the feedback RE: Introduction to linux -Configuration and installation - BORW3 - 04-12-2014 But how can I install ubuntu linux using only hardrive and unetbootin on windows 7. I partitioned my hardrive with windows partitioner and booted to ubuntu installation with unetbootin, but I didn't see the partition I had created using windows partitionaer, why is this? Please note: I had 4 partitions before while trying to use unetbootin and still had fou after creating the new partition with windows partitioner and booting to unetbootin to install ubuntu. Help me out. If you had 4 partitions before using the partitioning utility and 4 after, the partition was not created successfully. The most likely issue is that all 4 partitions are primary, which is the limit for this type on a disk you will need an extended partition for one of your data partitions. And as a warning always back up your data before changing anything like this. I will not be held responsible for any damage or loss of data. If you are unsure how to perform this use Google to search for the methods and make sure you fully understand what you are doing. But how do I extend partition without formating the partition being extended, is it possible? I would really like to know.
