I gamed on Playstation up until this release. the games that were coming out for Xbone were more appealing to me and the price is pretty well equal at launch considering the tag on the Xbox included the Kinect. I believe now Xbox and PS3 share the same tag and you still don't pay extra for the Kinect. In time if PS4 gets more exclusive titles that catch my eye, I might buy it but I have been extremely happy with the One.

I want a PS4 but I'm a poor HS student saving up for a new laptop Sad
Lolz, the struggle is real Tongue

Personally I would probably get PS4 myself, although as indie developer I must say that the support for indies isn't that friendly if you're not lucky enough to live in a few selected countries (same thing is with Microsoft, maybe even worse).

I wanted to apply to be a dev, but sadly things are quite complicated because of my location. I've recently applied to develop for Nintendo (Wii U) and I must say that they seem much friendlier to indies than both Sony and Microsoft.

Also... what about OUYA? Biggrin (I got two actually - one dev-kit that I won in their game jam)

@Frooxius I wasn't aware of the red tape surrounding certain areas but from what I've read (and I admit I didn't go too in depth with my research) it's far more laid back on Sony's end regarding indie devs.

I do wish you luck with Nintendo though as I've been following your sightline project (anyone reading this stop here and greenlight it, this needs to see the light of day) and it looks really interesting so would be cool to see what else you come up with.

And yes I've read about the OUYA and that looks like a nice bit of kit, what's it like hands on?

Either way I think I'll wait a little longer for the price to drop a bit and give them chance to work out any kinks in the hardware/software that plagued the last generation

@chmod: Well it's definitely getting better now, but you've got to consider the context. Before it was more or less "If you don't have a few dozen thousand dollars to pay for a publishing fee and large million dollars studio to produce the game then don't bother even contacting us" so "We might allow you to publish on our platform if you meet these less strict criteria" is a significant improvement, but there's still only a subset of indie's that actually meet them.

Compared to that platforms like PC (where you can publish freely) or Google Play or even Apple App Store (which has certain restrictions as well, but nowhere near as the consoles for indies - they don't care if you work alone on your own name, in office or from home or under a large company) it's still pretty restrictive has quite a way to go in my opinion.

Regarding OUYA I don't know it much from position of a regular player, they are focused directly on Indies and publishing is quite easy (although certain bits of their SDK are very annoying last time I used it), plus it's relatively cheap - the controllers themselves aren't top quality, but they're usable, the console itself is fine - the hardware isn't as powerful, but that's not that often needed for Indie games.

It's definitely a step in the right direction then, perhaps as it goes on and more indie's start to (try to) work with Sony/Microsoft the rules will relax a bit more, or they will allow more countries to submit content. I won't count on it but you never know. I suppose it's a lot easier to publish for PC though as there isn't really any authorities in the way, you are free to host an executable on a website and people can buy it and freely download the content. Then you have companies like valve who as far as I can tell really get behind indie developers.

RE: Xbox One VS PS4 - zerodown - 05-31-2014

I wrote a report in class about this.

I am not sure if the specs ever changed, but at the time of the report the PS4 was the clear winner for a couple of reasons.

1. 100$ cheaper
2. PS4 runs on DDR5 RAM and not DDR3 like the xbox one...

As far as network goes, the PS4 will also be better because it will eventually have more users than the xbox one. Case in point, look at the situation between PS3 and Xbox 360; on average the PS3 was 100$ cheaper than the xbox 360 worldwide and it was released almost a year behind; despite being released a year later, it outsold the Xbox 360 in total sales. Since a similar situation is occuring again, it is safe to say that PS4 will reign supreme.

PS4, without doubt.

I think xbox one is better than ps4. The best games are in xbox. It also has kinect and it's better.

Which games are you talking about, also in my OP I specifically stated I don't want kinect, also could you expand a bit on why it's 'better'
