It should work out the box so to speak as I said tor/vpn encrypts data client side so targets using these methods will be safe

Glad you found it useful, it looks quite intimidating at first but once you look around and see what's going on it's really quite simple.

Also do you know where I could find a list of filters to find the IP's of an external computer for different programmes such as steam; for example like the filter for skype you commented above?

Use Google and he wireshark website for the information you seek, as for filtering out ports just modify the skype example to suit your needs.
