you have only a wifi connection? - i mean don't you have a lan wired connection? -becouse if you have then you will make better to download and setup your router thru a wired connection.

If the hackers connect whith your device whith the wi fi connection means that are closed to you on the range that cover your net-let's say 100 mt ?

RE: Help Securing my system - mk13 - 08-14-2013

Thanks, all the router set up protection measures were completed. How do I change

RE: Help Securing my system - diana32 - 08-14-2013

If you follow the instruction that we send -i say we becose it now was only me -you don't need to change the mac address- the hackers has access on your wi-fi connection and means that use a remote access- practicaly they hack only your connection and is not on your system whith a rat or keylogger tools, you can easly bind if you close the telnet and on the router make what the LoneDevil says.Let's say that the hackers that you meet are kidding - they don't have access anymore -i also suggest if you install a antivirus to make a scan to all the file stored on your usb drive stick.Anyway changing the mac address here you can find some thread about how to do'it - but now i think is inussfull if you have made'it to secure your network.

The problem here is that I am not sure this is problem and where to find out

Diana32, the router was set up by using wired connection. Maybe I didn't explain clearly. The hacker didn't get in via wi-fi. I think they've got all my passwords, including the password to the network. I used to save all password in a skydrive.

I mean sky wallet

This not change nothing - if they see a password surelly they have access whith wireless ,but anyway - use what we say to reconfigure your sistem and you don't have much problem -at least untill you don't make a new mistake .Now i give you a trick on how i use to store my password-no hiddem files nothing -i only add to my contact phone some password -the half in the name and the other half on the number phone - noone can guess that John.sk ascd - 030/23abcd is mypassword for skype or diana 030/23456427 is my password for my paypal.(030 is the prefix for the brescia -italy home phone),you can also store into a pdf or something a text file but hidden -that means cyphred for the eyes of how read.

Thanks Diana32 for the password tips. Do you know if there is a way to collect evidence and bring these malicious hackers to justice?

It's not enough information. What were they able to do (this can help identifying where the hole is)? Some information about the OS? Are you using antimalware software? Are you sure Windows firewall is correctly running (in versions older than XP it is not even running by default)? If your wi-fi password is weak, it is easy for hackers in the whereabouts to crack it. The local wi-fi break-in is the most likely possibility to me, as you said you reinstalled all your operating systems, it's almost sure that it's not cause of a backdoor.

The most important things I need to know are:
- your OSes;
- your wi-fi password protection (I don't need your password, just your password protection algorithm (e.g: WEP));
- your antivirus/firewall software status.

My current ipothesis: you have a weak WPA2 password and a friendly neighbourhood hacker managed an horizontal privilege escalation through your network.

I used to have multiple devices connected to the network the same time. One time I was using the tablet and saw a picture flashed and disappeared when I opened the device to use. I later found out that the picture was saved in my local drive. So the hackers remotely logged into my system and browsing my files as they must have found out that I have multiple devices connected and they used the ones I wasn't using to get my personal information. Since they now know all my personal information, I am vey worried. Is there a way to collect evidence to bring them to justice? I assume what they did was not legal?

I think that the most easy way to collect information about this is to call your isp - the administrator must have stored all the traffic that comes in and out your net -if you knew they ip you have some chance to find'him,otherwise thing that i'm sure they do they have mask all the hack whith an anonimizer tool like tor or vpn,and i don't think that an ISP can find'him.But try to change and save what is to save ,and contact the SSN for a new password and other autority. You may take a week to do'it and if the hackers find the information stolen not usefull or hard to try you can succeed in this.Is the only way. And- yes- what they do was not legal for nothing - and bring to the justice is all up to you - i can say nothing since here - we are on a hack community - and even if you never find one person that will say -yes i hack -i'm sure that 80% are good hackers. Biggrin
