If somehow, like other forums, most helpful post could be marked, then it might be useful as a shortcut for people reading the thread to bypass having to read through all of the posts. I guess it can be beneficial, but only if it is used responsibly.

When I'm scrolling through comments on sites, I usually skip straight to the highest voted ones. Same thing on forums. XDA has a thanking system, which works more as a reward than anything, but also helps filter the junk.
If properly implemented, could be nothing but joy and happiness to all inhabitants of Sinisterly. I feel bad for the name change before it happened.
