Canada is a pretty bad example because they do own guns they just restrict law abiding citizens so that some won't be able to defend themselves, also they had these vastly lower murder rates when they didn't have the crazy gun restrictions, I could give you another bad example in return, mexico where their not allowed to own them, and look how many gun deaths they have, thousands, many more than USA (and ironically their 'illegal' guns came from USA under 'operation fast and furious'). Being more realistic violent crime in my country UK including things like burglary went up over 50% right after the ban and as far as I can see that's a normal reaction.

Suddenly the criminals know they can't get shot for what their doing, and its still easy for them to get guns, and I really mean they can't be shot, there are still some farmers that own guns for controlling pests, one elderly farmer shot a burgular in the arm, and he was sent to prison. the authorities now have the attitude that burglary is worth 6 months in jail, and that shooting someone is a lot worse no matter what the circumstance and should be punished severely. I think that creates a really dangerous atmosphere for good guys.

And all these killing sprees with schools and so on, don't you think if a teacher owned a gun, it would more likely be 1,2 maybe even 3 deaths instead of 20?

The guns don't disappear in a ban, only the citiznens playing by the rules are left vulnerable.

Its difficult for a Canadian to get a gun... its easier to get a hunting rifle, difficult to get a handgun, and damn near impossible to get a carry permit aside from a permit to transport to/from a range, but it needs to be locked up during transport. Whether or not they could use it for defense is irrelevant.

And yes, I agree that gun violence would increase for probably 10-15 years after the ban, but as guns are phased out, less people will have access to them... good or bad.

Right now who has access to weapons? everyone! Where do you think the guns that commit all these offences come from? Most of them are bought legally.

As for a teacher with a gun in a school... like the government would ever let that happen. Besides, In this case it was a teachers son. hm... if teachers has guns, how much easier would it be for a nutjob son to get his hands on one.

Seems like arming people just results in more people with weapons. Doesnt actually make anything safer.

Let me just point out a simple factor....

The inanimate object (gun) didn't just jump into the school and pull it's own damn trigger...
No there was somebody behind said trigger.

We don't need to remove all guns, (now before I go on here I agree with both Seb and Geo)
But what we need is tighter gun control, what I mean by this before you are even allowed to purchase a gun, you need to go through a psychiatric test.
And if you fail that test just once you're black listed for life.

Because one simply cannot remove guns totally, if you do that from the civillians then even after 100 years gang members will still have guns (which is why you don't see so many murders in Canada even with stricter controls because there's a shit ton of gang members here not there)

But Gangs, and people that want to start a spree bad enough will A. go to the black market side of internet (tor) B. smuggle from another country (like Mexico) C. build their own, me for example if I wanted to I could build a goddamn shotgun from pipe and a hammer.

Then you look at it this way, these murderees are so fucked in the head, that even with out a gun, they would just use a knife, granted the death rate would be ALOT lower but there would still be lifes lost...we need to acheive a way to keep from there being any deaths at all...
It's too late to just stop it with guns, because once they were first invented there's no way to completely rid civilization of them.
You just wind up with a society where only the bad people have guns, police take some times 4 hours to get there, by then you're dead.
And it's check mate.

I agree that only mentally stable law abiding people should be entitled to own a gun. I just don't believe they should be heavily restricted so that you end up with only criminals and law enforcement with guns.

Uhhh....Did you even read my whole post?
What I was getting at is that guns should be legalized but we need to have examinations of each person trying to buy a gun...

And I made a shit ton of more points...

This incident happened. I really don't care or think anyone should be talking about bearing arms. This is a time for mourning for the families who lost their innocent children, who were brutally slaughtered. Not time for petty arguments or "guns laws"

And you! I am no fan of my government. But really??? You basically just blamed the fact that 26 people were killed on the government. I'm sorry, do you want the government to install mind reading devices on us so they know when we might do something bad? Really?

All of you should be ashamed. I know one of those families. And they aren't caring about gun laws. They aren't caring about the government.

They care about how they will never see there childrens smile again, or explaining the death to their childrens siblings.

Grow up.

Seems like a perfectly logical argument to be honest... if you believe in that kind of garbage.
