I have Tor and whatnot. But that I thought was to stay anonymous while browsing the web. But I'm sure that can't be 100% though. I know VPN's and proxies help stay hidden downloading files and software but I'm sure you can't just rely on that? Would you use a proxy and VPN at the same time or is that pointless? Just wondering if there were more tricks other than proxies/VPN and programs like TOR. I browse to thepiratebay with my Tor Browser, I then copy the direct torrent/magnet link. I then disconnect from Tor, and then connect to my VPN and then copy and paste the download link into my normal browser. That way... Your ISP cannot see what website you went on because you used Tor, and then you are downloading the torrent through your vpn; The vpn masks your IP so the torrent can't be traced back to you that easily. Your ISP will see that you are downloading, but they cannot see what, for all they know you could be downloading a patch for a steam game or something, all they will see is high bandwidth usage, which comes from large game patches etc, but they wont be able to see what it actually is. Thanks man. But even if they did figure out what you were downloading they still wouldn't know who and where you lived I'm assuming. Not without getting the Logs from the VPN provider, thats why I don't use commonly known VPNs such as hidemyass, cyberghost etc, because they keep logs. You're very safe with just a VPN, as long as they will not give logs. What type of activity are you planning on doing? It depends on that too. RE: What VPN Service Do You Recommend/Use? - Nil - 09-22-2012 I just haven't been very safe in past when downloading. I got away from it and the whole government crackdown on it kept me away. I don't know how strict it is now or if anything changed but I'd like to be on the safe side. Plus, I'm interested in learning about computer technology/security so it's nice to know if I ever need it. Thanks for everyone's help too! Your Welcome, Where abouts in the world are you from? Some places you are less likely to be caught.
