RE: Kickstarter Project - MikeM - 11-15-2014

I neither think cross platform would be as pricey as 3000.
None the less why would a minor kid as we talk under 15years old even mind a linux OS?
This app is just for <15 not 15> because I think 15+ knows well enough how to behave themselves...
If they don't show it well it's a problem from their parents and their parenting.
Instead of giving a 12 year old computer maybe a global computer is better, one in the living room or so.
Its way more logical and better than this.
You can't protect your kid from the bad people on the internet, you can only give them advice on what not to do and never ever do stuff related to seksual contact.
It's way more effective than monitoring your kid.
It's like: when you're going to shop and your kid is 12 are you still holding his hand? I don't think so, it's because you thaught them how to behave theirselves.
The internet is the same...

Before you criticise my friend may I suggest you learn basic English grammar, also I have seen how a lot of 10 - 15 year olds act around my area they smoke, drink, take drugs etc, you obviously haven't seen parts of England where this type of thing is quite rife.

Everyday I see kids as 10 walking to school by themselves, where as in your country I'll take this as being frowned upon not everywhere is the same my friend, just the other day I saw a young girl being asked if she was lost by two Asian males, fair enough she may have known them but at the same time why did she say no and walk away as fast as possible.

Last thing now, my parents taught me not do a lot of things but I still did them why? Because I wanted to experience them and learn for myself instead of living in a sheltered life not everyone thinks like me nor you, you should never assume that a child isn't going to do something stupid as a lot of children actually pretend to be older or over 18 when they are browsing the internet due to the mentality of the internet and young people being on here.

RE: Kickstarter Project - The Toilet Paper King - 11-16-2014

A. Who do you think you're kidding? This is your project. You've referenced HoenirSoftware enough on here to know it's yours.

B. It's a shit KickStarter page. There is literally a 1 line description of your goal. Doesn't have anything specific as to how you'll attain it or what separates this project from the many already out there that do this.

C. There are already a shitload of applications out there that do this. It is not a unique idea

D. 3,000 pound goal? I don't know exactly what the economy like is in london but that sounds like about 6 weeks worth of full time design, implementation, and testing. For an amazing cross platform tool? There are existing packages that have had far more development costs put into them that are more than adequate for this purpose. Still don't see the benefit of yours vs whats available.

In conclusion - It doesn't take a psychic to see this project going nowhere on kickstarter as it is.

Allright mister I am an englishman and Q_Q at other peoples grammar even if they aren't english at the first place.

FIRST OF ALL: You understood me so don't bitch about it, it's just another silly excuse of a silly person if he/she doesn't get right and instead just get rect.

SECOND OF ALL: "also I have seen how a lot of 10 - 15 year olds act around my area they smoke, drink, take drugs etc, you obviously haven't seen parts of England where this type of thing is quite rife."

What does DRINKING, TAKING DRUGS AND SMOKING in real life have to do with the internet mister smart guy?
I live in the netherlands and I am 17 years old [I know more of childs then you think].
Well too bad I know how all this shit works got it, they got it from friends and don't tell me it's the internet because it's not... it's their friends that get them into this shit.
How they get drugs, via via through friends.
I am daily going with the bus and there are some kids maybe 15 or 16 how they get their drugs, they got it through their friends which knows young dealers. NO INTERNET INVOLVED.

"Everyday I see kids as 10 walking to school by themselves, where as in your country I'll take this as being frowned upon not everywhere is the same my friend, just the other day I saw a young girl being asked if she was lost by two Asian males, fair enough she may have known them but at the same time why did she say no and walk away as fast as possible."

Let's take this BS apart:

"Everyday I see kids as 10 walking to school by themselves, where as in your country I'll take this as being frowned upon not everywhere is the same my friend,"

So what it's not going to solve that with a monitoring tool, go hire a detective 24/7/365[/366] because this monitoring tool is NOT helping you on that shit.

"just the other day I saw a young girl being asked if she was lost by two Asian males, fair enough she may have known them but at the same time why did she say no and walk away as fast as possible."

It might be their families friend(s) or just 2 family members, you don't know their status by that girl and their family, you ain't allowed to judge that the same as "I may not judge on your friends project because of my grammar".

"Last thing now, my parents taught me not do a lot of things but I still did them why? Because I wanted to experience them and learn for myself instead of living in a sheltered life not everyone thinks like me nor you, you should never assume that a child isn't going to do something stupid as a lot of children actually pretend to be older or over 18 when they are browsing the internet due to the mentality of the internet and young people being on here."

The fact that you state "you should never assume that a child isn't going to do something stupid"

is the only fact I agree with.

A child shall not be trusted therefor it doesn't state WHY this software is "so good" as you come over to...

I stated various options to do instead of wasting money into this.
1) A child of 10-13 shall not even be allowed to go on a computer without someone being around them.
2) A child of 10-13 shall not even have an own computer on their room.
3) You have a router, Google "how to add a url filter on {router name}" and you can come a lot of further then buying software like this and be like "yay again a mail let's see whats in their"
4) Your router has several options to block things which makes browsing the internet safer.
5) Your child of 10-13 doesn't know where the history button is on your browser, they just do stuff. click the big ass red button with an "x" on it and they think everything is gone.
Check the history of your child ones in a while.
6) Ones your child grow up and see shit running like this on the computer, don't think they are going to trust you sooner or later and don't expect that he isn't going to swear at you.

Sometimes over-protecting is worse then just let them go.
on top of that, A single google search on: "parental control monitoring software"
gives me these results: around 795.000 results (0,27 seconds)
Let's click the first page I see at the first result: http://parental-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

So again what makes the sense of greating a tool that's already their which is still better than this new one?

RE: Kickstarter Project - Nil - 11-17-2014

A lot of companies we take for granted would be nowhere if they thought their path was useless because there is already something out there like it. Not taking sides, but I just don't think that that thought process will you get anywhere.

No but being all bitchy about something while one its just an idea, 2 no description nor progress at all plus overpriced as hell won't get them anywhere either...

RE: Kickstarter Project - Lynux - 11-17-2014

Most of the tools already out there use a third party to collect the data whilst this one will use a server set up at home or some other via email.

Most other tools also have a monthly subscription where as this one will be a one time fee of $50, so no recurring payments.

Also I wasn't having a bitch at you specifically I was just stating facts, I think I may go away and do some more research on this rather than just sticking a page up and hoping for the best.

RE: Kickstarter Project - Xeru - 11-17-2014

Privacy aside, not a bad idea. By sheltering children and preventing them from seeing how bad the world can be, you're really doing them more harm than good. That's not to say that you should condone anything that could be harmful to your children, but using a re-purposed RAT to "monitor" them just doesn't do it. In fact, it's been shown that being closely watched online by parents can lead to psychological disorders such as paranoia (specifically feelings of being watched) down the road.

The only thing that will work in a realistic scenario is telling them a mildly "sugar-coated" version of the truth. Instead of saying "there are old men on the internet who want to see you naked", you can say "there are bad people who want you to do bad things, don't listen to them, and tell me if someone tells you to do something you know is wrong" (obviously a little more in-detail, but along those lines). That's how parenting has been done since Internet child abuse became an issue at all, the parents that care about their children can easily prevent bad things without resorting to spying on them.

lol sad to say but yeah... this exactly

As I've said @Lynux - your project is much better off becoming open-source. No application for a RAT will generate a large amount of money; there are already open-source alternatives that can be tested immediately, rather than purchased blindly.

Here is a kickstarter I was apart of:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/604680309/comatose-indie-horror-game

We put at least 2 weeks of work into researching and creating the page and we still didnt get funded.

wait comatose isn't a thing? Sad
I was looking forward to it

OP: Cool story. I believe this would be a lot more efficient than a site blocker, as afterwards one could actually confront children about it, and have a conversation...

I got caught by my father from searching for porn when I was like 13 so he confronted me about it. Nothing huge followed, he just told me to stay away from it for a year or two. And to avoid... certain stuff.
