I used Usenet for a little. Not my thing.

Your one of those GUI lovers are you not? >.>

Depending on your machine workloads with 8 cores and 64GB of ram you have enough system to run multiple guests. You could start with 2 cores on one guest and watch your workload. Most game servers are not very intensive and it is likely if you used more than 2 cores to start they would be sitting idle.

If you beef up your storage space you could run your own cloud storage. (recommend a battery backup)

You could run a virtual PBX and setup free telephone service in the US and Canada with Google voice and a SIP provider and then start a call center to sell whatever service you wanted.

You could host your own website to be used in conjunction with your call center.

You could create a newznab server to index NNTP and kick the torrent habit.

You could also do the same thing with Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 and its built in hyper-v if you wanted to have a Windows foundation, though you would be running Windows all the time over the virtual machines and that would take more of the resources away from the guests.

Also, was thinking about usenet server.

I like the idea of turning it into a massive virtualization host. setup KVM and run ALLTHETHINGS.

I really like KVM/QEMU/Virtualzation though :p. I feel like that's a boat load of hardware for a simple media server though...

Its a bit overkill..... I mean i even have a GPU in the thing, that alone can handle the media's play back. but yeah its got 2 E5320's in it.

sounds like a nice rig. I'm sure it's more than capable of most anything you decide to do. Also, eww Ubuntu Server :-p. At least it isn't Winderz though
