I was hospitalized once because my mother thought I was suicidal (which I don't think is true..) but meeting all those other kids really changed my perspective on the whole thing. Especially at an age like mine (17) things will always get better and for all we know, this could be all we get. I agree 100% that it is definitely not fair for family, friends, and those who love you.

What made your mother think you were suicidal, I'm curious.

I just sort of stopped doing things, talking to people, going out, etc.. This was also about the same time she caught me smoking weed, so that didn't help. Anyways, I'm really glad I went actually. It was a real wake up call to what kind of stuff goes on outside from my life.

yeah, I see how that would make her concerned. She's quite a good mother, for noticing that and acting on it as well. I mean, if you were actually suicidal and she asked you, what reason would you have to tell her the truth.

Ending your life on purpose in general is idiotic. Life can always get better, you just have to hang in there and not lose control of yourself. What I really hate is when teenagers kill themselves at such a young age. There's so much they haven't experienced and they're throwing their life away that some other kid would probably kill to have. Not to mention it puts your family and everyone else that loves you in pain, I could never forgive myself if I tried doing something like that. No matter how bad you think your life is, there's always at least one person who has it worse.

My dad told me this after he tried killing himself, and after he realized how fucking stupid he was. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It hurts others also.

The thing with this is that people feel isolated and alone, and that no body loves them. So in the eyes of a suicidal person, nobody will miss them.

When you are in a certain mental state things like that don't help, Its not that talking to someone close to you is difficult it could be that you don't want to burden them with your problems. Everyone is different and thinks differently. Take me for example I don't tell anyone close to me with the exception of 2 people about any of my mental problems my family doesn't even know they exist. Its nicer to have them think that you are happy and content with life because people treat you differently when there is mental instability involved and it just causes more stress. Usually if people are going to commit suicide they don't talk about it, they don't fail at it they just do it.

I really disagree with that last statement, If someone is experiencing enough mental anguish that they feel the need to end their life they should not have to suffer themselves to keep their family happy. Yes it is upsetting to see a family member die especially at their own hands but like others have said, its their choice we do not deserve to tell them if they can or can not live you do not know what is going on inside their head.

While I completely disagree with what crypt said, This is only true in some cases not all suicidal people feel the same.

Unless... The problem is permanent too? Terminal illness, or something of the sort. In your viewpoint, would you be prepared to accept something like that?

True. Only my girlfriend and one of my friends knows about most of the problems I had/have.

I feel like if I have to die, I at least deserve to decide when and where.

I don't have much to say on the subject, but here's Alan Watts talking about suicide:

Well Euthanasia is different from suicide. Which do you mean?
