The best advice I can give you is to hold on tight and observe what happens around you. I use to cut alot not from bullies but from hating myself because I wasnt good at making friends. Slowly but surely I started to observe what was going on around me and I realized that it didn't happen to everyone but I wasn't alone. So I hope you pull through man, good luck. RE: Proudest Achievement - BreShiE - 07-02-2014 Proudest achievement? I'm not sure haha. Probably for staying myself through all the shit that's happened. Other than that, not sure. RE: Proudest Achievement - Eclipse - 07-02-2014 I honestly cannot recall anything worth mentioning. I've had a huge passion for computers from a very young age, and so, have learned a lot, but not enough. My father isn't much of one, so I guess I've had to do everything on my own. I'm fifteen years old, so hopefully I have my whole life ahead of me. I don't have anything worth mentioning here, but the fact that I am myself. I am me. RE: Proudest Achievement - Satan - 07-02-2014 Coming out at all about any portion of my identity or sexuality. I was born gay. But never told anyone until a few years ago that until 16, I was not interested in girls at all, once I found out they had different 'equipment' than guys. After 16, I went more and more towards girls. Being pansexual, I'm sexually attracted to whomever I am, but I prefer girls for the reason that they're more emotional than men are generally, and I love emotion. And as far as being transgendered, its still not public fact, but here, my class mates, my girlfriend, and some of my closest friends are all who know. Very fearful to speak to my family about it still. But, I've known since an early age, not quite sure when. I've hated myself since, for being as I am, so I know its not a phase type thing such as my little brother went through. He's more interested in just cross dressing. Both are things that have been difficult to come out about, but I've started to reach that point as I get more and more confident in myself, and more support from others. It may not be much to you guys when you compliment my appearance as was done in the PYP thread, but it helps me more than I can ever say to feel supported like that. They're not supposed to be able too, but a drama teacher slipped up to me about it around a week before I left, and I could instantly see from her facial expression she was thinking "Oh fuck" because she wasn't supposed to say anything about it. I was hoping to do GCSE in Core Science, Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and Business Studies, and was then hoping to do Physics, Chemistry and ICT A Levels so I could get into a decent Uni for either Computer Science or Game Development, but with the way things are going I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that. I've spent most of today searching up decent programming books and finding torrents for them, so hopefully I can learn a decent amount from the books I can torrent online so that even if I don't manage to go the Uni route I can still be good enough to be a games programmer, guess time will tell. Thanks man, I appreciate the kind words. It's kinda hard to remember sometimes but I just try to remember on really shitty days that it's going to get better at some point if I keep working at it, hopefully I'm right.(07-02-2014, 08:50 PM)Aurora Wrote: This honestly made me cry a little. Yeah, hopefully I'll be able to use the stuff I find online to start working towards my goals if I can't get the school books, thanks. The problem with people wanting to get into the video game industry, is that they have trouble being realistic. When I was considering the university I'm currently at, I got to meet with the department head of Computer Science. I remember, there was a kid there who was interested in game development... with little or no experience programming. His parents asked the department head how possible it would be to leave the university and work at a company like EA. He read out statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and a few other places, which obviously revealed how unlikely it was. I think meeting with the head of the department opened his eyes a little and needless to say, I didn't see him on campus in the future. Obviously, if you're talented and determined enough, you might make it. But for a lot of people, that's not the case. Edit: Oh, and another tip. If you are coming from the UK and their standards are different for Computer Science, just go to university in the United States. There are plenty of universities that love foreigners and would be happy to accept you. I don't think any American universities have requirements on what courses you take in high school. I know a university student who's a games designer. Who's previously worked for EA, had a job at Jagex and has just recently moved to Google. He doesn't program, nor draw too much. But what he's great at is getting EVERYTHING down on paper. An indie studio is going to want someone who can: draw, write, code and design all in one, as this is going to save them money. But larger game studios and companies are going to one people who are focused in a specific niche area. That way you have a large network of talented people working on their forte. RE: Proudest Achievement - Nyx - 07-03-2014 Building my gaming PC, my grades in school (this year I averaged 100% in 3 classes: english, social studies and science) and just in general my behavior in my day to day life. Nothing so far I've encountered in life has made me depressed like a lot of teenagers get, I'm generally a happy person and I am very likable. Pretty much all I am proud of, though I do plan on doing a lot of stuff in my life during high school! People used to be so rude to her and saying she did it all for attention and what not. She was also an only child. Therefore, her parents only way of getting grandchildren. Her parents used to cry and freak out if she mentioned possibly being gay. Eventually she came out about being trans and despite the issues it started, and after a diagnosis of gender dysphoria.. Her parents have very slowly but surely began to accept it. Her mum will now happily do her makeup for her and so on. I hope things will look up for you they way they did with my friend. I took higher tier triple science when I did GCSEs and I got great grades in maths and English. Are you doing Eng Language/Literature/both? Lemme know if you want any help. Do you ever use bitesize? I used to hate going to it because I felt silly doing so... But they have some useful information. If you're struggling for textbooks, I would suggest grabbing a load of past papers from whatever board you'll complete the course with and get the mark scheme. Then use internet sources for anything else. I used to use sparknotes etc for english literature. This is pretty much what I had to do for my only self-taught course in A level. I still got an A in it. Sorry if any of my suggestions aren't very helpful though >.< Advantages of being British... You can get your GCSEs/A levels at any age. Same for University. Most of the people who are in my classes are at least a year to 5 years older than me. Some are even in their 40s/50s. So, I wouldn't worry about that if it were to bother you. You don't have to go to University in the states... Bearing in mind you won't get the same financial aid that you'll get in the UK. However, to get into a UK University of the standard that you need - well it's going to be a lot harder to find one and get in. The US does have great opportunities when it comes to their Universities. I also know that some of their courses offer an entire year in a workplace. Work Experience woo! xD If you do come to picking a University - Just spend time really going into detail about the pros and cons. Also, remember, you can sometimes transfer if it's not what you want. RE: Proudest Achievement - Losi - 07-03-2014 Prob my best achievement is winning first in my national basketball division. That felt pretty rewarding. Thats about it. |
