It's a fish, it barely has feelings at all, let alone actual pain or fear.
They run on instinct, which isn't emotion, and let's be honest, the fish would probably be hunted sooner or later anyways. It's just cutting off some time.

They can be compared to a log of wood that fucks underwater and makes for good food.

Well, the one time I actually caught something I was using a like, small net on a rod on the end of a pier, so it didn't get injured in any ways.

Well you won't really snag anything big with a net, to be honest. Then again depends if you even want that, fishing for eats and all.

When I was fishing for eats I had hooks, with the intention that if I caught a fish that wasn't for eating then I'd put it back in if it wasn't hurt too badly, if it was hurt too much I wasn't sure what I'd do, I was actually crabfishing with a net from a pier and it was the first time the entire week I had caught a fish, which was surprising considering that I had been fishing with hooks all week and caught nothing. I put the fish in a bucket and got out my fish book, worked out it was a Three Bearded Rocklin, then I put it back into the water.

This is going to sound a little off-topic, because it is, but I actually really like fishing and most water-hunt activities. How difficult is it really to go crab fishing? Just swipe 'em and dump them in a bucket?

Yeah, that's pretty much how I've always caught crabs (hurrhurr) . But yeah, basically what me and my family used to do was get some string, get some bacon for bait, wrap the string around the bacon with enough for us to put it in the water and hold onto it still, when we saw a crab take a bite we would swipe it up, put it in a bucket of water, and later on put it back in the ocean, that worked for really shallow areas where you could see what you were doing, but when we were doing it from the pier we would tie a net onto the bottom of the string and bring it up slowly.
