I definitely think it is worth it since very few people do actually donate. I know there have been some, but it would assist the site and make it more "money-secure". I think it can be taken for granted that you are offering a free service and getting no money from it. Although I do agree with some of the above mentioned ideas for limits such as applying for Super Elite (excellent idea to maintain quality) and the limit to how much that can be bought a month (is this one easy to enforce?) RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Cake - 03-26-2014 Do what ever the fuck you gotta do. RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Nil - 03-26-2014 Just using HF as reference, you just see a lot of upgraded members, even Uber, to be the most immature, LQ members. If you ever do a S.Elite application style, you should be pretty strict in your decision. One of the major things I like about this site is that its possible for people such as myself to get better ranks just using the site currency. I don't see how donating to the site to earn currency that could be used for an upgrade could be such a big issue. Just make buying SP for Elite+ That way they need at least 500 posts or nice donators to get Elite before they can even buy SP for cash. After they have Elite, purchasing SP in my opinion should be looked as as rewarding keeping the site funded and alive, which imo is pretty HQ. RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Judas - 03-26-2014 What about being able to buy boosts? So you get x% more SP for posting/making threads/etc. for x amount of days. Would keep the "exclusivity" of SP but still allow users to purchase a quicker way of gaining them. RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Customer - 03-26-2014 I think it would be a problem. There would be a lot of issues with just the idea of purchasing it, not even considering what a shitstorm it would brew up. Just an opinion. RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Flareon - 03-26-2014 As long as the rate is fair and it isn't dirt cheap to get a bunch of SP, I wouldn't mind too much. If the rate is too low it would make achieving any of the rewards worthless really. RE: Would This Make Me a Bad Person? - Eclipse - 03-26-2014 I am against this idea. When I first came here, and noticed that all the upgrades were with SP, I was glad. This is an amazing and unique forum, and it should stay that way. You should at most, share the cost, and then publicly accept donations. If you still want to go with your idea, you should charge an extremely high, obnoxious price, but I'm against it. |
