I didn't even notice I was shot until a medic asked if it was my blood. Even then, I didn't stop fighting. If there's one thing you learn, its that your team is all you have. You put out for the team, and they all do the same, and everyone goes home.

This guy is definitely heroic, but so are countless others. Not to dimimish his heroism( though I'm sure he doesn't think he is ).

My dad fought as a rebel in the iraqi civil war, he was in combat when a grenade went off and 6 fragments flew into his chest and shoulder. He said it was the most painful thing to ever happen to him, but he had to keep fighting as they were outnumbered and couldnt risk losing a single man.

I've always respected my dad, but this just made me respect him more.

Honestly, if i was in combat and got shot, first thought in my mind is im dead, and i'd probably just lay on the ground.

The human body is actually very hard to instantly kill. As you've developed a bond with those alongside you, especially if you know you're going to die, you dedicate all that you've got to protecting your brothers.
