That's the point

How? You play as a Ranger and a CIA operative. The CIA operative is tricked into being present at the mass slaughter of civilians. The Russians then invade the States.

A good sign of who the bad guys are is who invades whom, and which side the player plays for.

He was a good guy for the first half of the game, but then he reveals that is is pretty much the main antagonist.

If you mean Shepherd, he's still excluded from being the US government, especially as he doesn't even use the US Army for any of his missions, ever.

I wonder what they'd do if someone released a game where the US was the evil one...

I'd like the bring Spec Ops: The Line to the table here.

Again, a single unit, noted multiple times as having committed treason, was the enemy, not the United States as a country.

I was referring to Walker, a representative of the U.S, as well as a U.S. Soldier who has had to kill his own people AND civilians despite the fact that they did nothing wrong, WHILE breaking the fucking Geneva Convention, no less.

The 33rd( or was it 34th ) was a unit in rebellion, so they weren't his own people.

Regardless, he's depicted as mentally unstable and a lone wolf. I've yet to see a game where the entire US military makes a coordinated attack against the protagonist.

They're Americans who were excommunicated just because, they are his own people.

Besides, when Russians play the big bad, they're rogue terrorists, not officially endorsed government agents (except for games that take place in the future).
