RE: Starting My Military PT :P - Nil - 08-31-2013 Yeah, I don't think I could do this since you have to go back down the list. I did see some great videos showing good exercises to improve your chin up and pull up strength. I did them every other day and I definitely noticed it got easier once I started to rep out. The great thing about chins is that you will be able to more with the more you do. I'm only doing them once every 4 days and I've added 7 reps to my max reps in the last 4 weeks of training.

What I was doing is doing a pull up, then slowly bring yourself back to the starting position in 8 seconds or so, and then repeat until you can't do anymore. I also just did regular pull ups to failure, and when you can't pull yourself up anymore, hold whatever position you're in for as long as you can. Do these for several sets. 3-5 I'd say. Yeah, I used to to negatives like that a while ago also. Burns good! RE: Starting My Military PT :P - Gingie - 08-31-2013 Another thing you can do is get in a pull up position and just hold it for as long as you can. Then jump off the bar and wait till you're ready, then get back on the bar and hold your chin above the bar for as long as you can. Then keep alternating. Absolutely builds pull up strength! Forgot to say I did that too.

Holding yourself at the top of the chin-up? Can't see how it's as effective as doing full reps. The limited (well zero) range of motion means you're not working all muscles as efficiently as possible. I'm more of a technical person. I'm going in for Computer Engineering. Also good luck in the Marines. I'm not trying to detour you from making your decision, but right now America is sending all Marines to Syria. Navy doesn't swim as much as you think they do. If you like being stuck on ships for long periods of time then go for it. To each his own....and the Marine comment: There probably won't be boots on the ground, the Navy/Marine team and the Air Force will probably strike strategic targets. In addition, that's what Marines do, so if you want no part in that, stay away. On a side-note, if you don't want to have the change of engaging in conflict, stay out of the military period. That's the point. Today's conflicts involve members from every branch, not just the Army and Marines. Not to sound mean, I just don't get that train of logic sometimes. |
