Based on his proven track record of social engineering some of the largest entities (Fortune 500 companies Included), I believe Mitnick Is quite a talented SE'er. But that's just my opinion, each to their own.

Plus respect to you and thanks for respecting my point of view.

It's just that because English is almost the global language of everyone (aside from Chinese), Americans always get the credit. Hahaha. But no offense if you are from United States of America. But hey, I can't disagree with you as well because he is really indeed a very talented SE. One of the legends! Smile

This shows that not everyone is into Kevin Mitnick. Plus one to vittring as well! Smile

I may or may not be from the US, but either way, there's no offense taken.

Mitnick Is exceptionally good, however he's not proficient In all facets of social engineering.

His area of expertise Includes: "pretexting", "tailgating", "spear phishing", "quid pro quo", "phishing" and the rest of the names that someone happened to somehow manifest with their fanciful Imagination. That's pretty simple stuff. If he's asked to comment In the capacity of company manipulation and exploitation by reading any article published on my blog, he'd be at a loss as to what It entails.

I believe I've mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating. Mitnick is an OG. But his time has passed. Networks simply aren't built how they were. Sure, he's adapted to the new landscape. He's just not as proficient at modern kinds of hacking. And his theories are mostly research and archaic forms of phreaking and physical pentests; intrusion using SE is far more technical these days. That's why I prefer Chris Hadnagy. His storytelling is much more enjoyable and he focuses on real, modern scenarios. I've got nothing against the guy, I just don't like the hype over his name. I've seen his work at DefCon and Blackhat. He's a cool guy.

Thank you very much mothered! Its true he is still one of the real deal but still almost all of what he is doing nowadays is pretty simple and anyone can do it as well. Even kids can do it. He is more of a social engineer, and cracker, than a true hacker who is much into exploits.

Ever since he uploaded videos at YouTube, and presented talks, I can see that he seems to be kinda new with computer exploitation though he is still witty! Most of his work are in regards with playing around with telecommunications.

This is exactly what I wanted to say! His time has already passed-by, we won't still be forgetting what he had done, and contributed to the community though there will always be a better version of him.

Going back to OPs topic, get in-touch with Kevin Mitnick's books, use it as a reference, study programming, databases, then reverse engineering, and you are all good. Try to apply everything you learn from the books and what you learn from this forum. Everything will all go smooth on your end.

Yes, he deals a lot with telecommunications, which originated In his early days of phone phreaking.

He's a talented social engineer, but not proficient In that field.

Indeed, and it was just a hobby for him which became into an obsession. He only got multiple opportunities by the time he went to jail. Pretty cool story though.

Quick question, ever heard of the guy he fought with? Tsutomu Shimomura?

I certainly have heard of Shimomura. He was responsible for the apprehension and arrest of Kevin Mitnick.

He's a computational physicist, and was one of the (US) country's leading experts on computer security technology.
