Fair point, but It depends how many cans of soda you drink per day.

A few friends consume over 5 cans, thereby 10,000 straws would last a little over 5 years. In 10 years, the metal straw pays Itself off. It's not exactly an Ideal way of looking at It, but It Is what It Is.

One could argue, you're not paying for a straw in and of itself, you're paying for not building up the plastic waste. Of course the $20 is for the company's costs in making the straw, mark up and their delivery, but as a consumer, that $20 is you paying for sustainability over plastic waste. At least, that's the angle of the marketing. But it's not entirely untrue. From a completely transactional view: It's $20 for a metal straw. From a bigger picture view: It's $20 for a solution to a problem (whether that solution is good or not).
