He desperately wanted the Soviet Union to catch up to the Western powers for fear of invasion (Soviets were using manpower for everything while the West had work using machines). He made a 5 year plan to catch up to the West and finished in 4 years. Millions died as a result.

Yeah i’m gonna have to do a bit more research on that , kinda crazy what they would do for power and control back then.
